The Hillhouse Enterprise Zone is located on the site of the former ICI manufacturing plant at Thornton on the Fylde Coast and is on a world-leading chemical and polymer location.

Building on the history of innovation in the field of plastic and polymers the site has seen new enterprises develop using the knowledge base of the existing workforce to develop a thriving sector which is now home to over 40 businesses.

Lancashire is also host to The Collaborative Technology Access Programme providing businesses access to facilities and expertise located in the Chemistry Department at Lancaster University.

Hillhouse Technology Enterprise Zone offers full COMAH status and provides fantastic facilities for the chemical sector on an existing, internationally recognised business park.

Sector focus: Energy, Wind, Nuclear & Waste to Energy

Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone sits on Britain’s Energy Coast and includes
a fully operational runway of 6,130 feet.

The UK is a world leader in offshore wind and Britain’s Energy Coast contains 11.5% of the UK’s wind power sites and has capacity to generate 24% of the wind power in the UK. There is also huge potential for tidal energy generation from Morecambe Bay.

Both nuclear and offshore wind generation have capacity to continue developing and creating further opportunities for the region.

There are 41,000 workers in the energy and environment sector in Lancashire.

Construction of the Lancashire Energy HQ, one of the flagship developments on the Enterprise Zone, will act as a training base for the national energy sector.

Blackpool Airport (category 3 airport / can be extended to category 6) offers helicopter and private flights, bespoke aviation solutions and other commercial airside activities.

The Warton Aviation Enterprise Zone covers 75 hectares of land alongside BAE Systems’ globally renowned site.

With a rich history of over 100 years of aviation innovation the Warton Aviation Enterprise Zone is the only UK private fast-jet testing facility.

Warton is to the west of Preston in close proximity to the M55 and M6.

The site offers opportunities for companies to locate alongside BAE Systems’ Military Air and Information Division, which has developed some of the most advanced engineering and manufacturing capability anywhere in the world.
